I studied Industrial Engineering & Management at the University of Groningen and I'm now doing the MSc in Complex Systems Engineering & Management at TU Delft. This semester I'm on exchange at the Technical University of Munich, taking finance courses. I've interned at Philips, Schur Flexibles and GPTech, and I passed CFA Program Level I in November 2025.

Estudié Industrial Engineering & Management en la University of Groningen y ahora curso el MSc en Complex Systems Engineering & Management en TU Delft. Este semestre estoy de intercambio en la Technical University of Munich, con asignaturas de finanzas.     I was born and raised in Seville, the eldest of four siblings. If I had to pick what has defined me most since I was little: my family, my curiosity and wanting to learn.

    Outside school I found much of my balance in nature and sport. And another curiosity showed up early: wanting to see the world, live in other countries and find out what life was like outside the place I grew up. I didn't want to wait until I was older to do it.

    I organised my first stay abroad myself: a couple of months at St Ninian's High School, living with a Scottish family. No agency, no programme. I contacted a former teacher who lived there and worked it out with the families involved.

  3. SVQ GPTech, engineering from the insideGPTech, la ingeniería por dentro

    Before I knew what to study, I spent two weeks at Green Power Technologies (GPTech, today eks Energy), a Seville company working on power electronics to connect renewable energy to the grid. For the first time, science and maths became real technology.

    I learned far more from them than I could give back. It was the first time I saw how engineers work and how an idea ends up as a technological solution. GPTech was founded in Seville in 2002; in 2019 its know-how became the eks Energy brand, later integrated into Hitachi Energy.

    Three years after Glasgow I did it again: a month living with a German family to improve my German. Once more I found the contact, talked to the family and organised the stay myself.

    I finished school with A* in Chemistry, A* in Physics and A in Mathematics. That April I gave the acceptance speech when CBS, The British School of Seville, received the Andalucía Excelente 2020 award for its educational project.

    It was one of my first times speaking in public on behalf of an organisation. Much later I understood that communicating an idea well, defending it and getting people to connect with it is almost as important as the idea itself.

    An internship at a packaging plant near Groningen, where I discovered Lean Manufacturing and, through a project with Sincronia Consulting, what consulting actually was.

    I chose the University of Groningen for its BSc in Industrial Engineering & Management: roughly two-thirds technical and one-third business, taught in English. I didn't have to choose between engineering and business. I could study both.

    Teaching became part of it too. In 2022–23 the university hired me as an LC Coach for first-year IEM students, working with groups of more than 30. From February to June 2023 I was a Learning / Teaching Assistant for Statistics & Stochastics, and I was also an Exchange Mentor for international students. Teaching forces you to understand things in a different way.

    También empecé a enseñar. En 2022–23 la universidad me contrató como LC Coach de estudiantes de primer año de IEM, con grupos de más de 30. De febrero a junio de 2023 fui Learning / Teaching Assistant de Statistics & Stochastics, y también Exchange Mentor de estudiantes internacionales.     I also crossed paths with Ben Feringa, who studied and did his PhD in Groningen and won the 2016 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Ten years of his Nobel Prize (RUG).

Outside class I took every chance to see the country: I rented a car to drive to Niagara Falls, hiked in Maine, spent a week in Miami, got to know New York and ended up in San Francisco, where I visited the McKinsey & Company office and spent time with someone who worked there. Years earlier I had discovered consulting almost by chance. Now I could see it from another angle.

    Supercritical CO₂ extraction to make flexible PVC recyclable, supervised by Prof. Francesco Picchioni. It closed a stage that began without knowing what kind of engineer I wanted to be.

If IEM taught me to optimise processes inside organisations, CoSEM asks how to change a whole system when technology, companies, governments, law, economics and people all interact. In parallel I prepared CFA Program Level I and passed it in November 2025.

    Could certain traditional lacquering processes be replaced by an alternative called drum coating? What started as a purely technological question became a much more complete project: technology, suppliers, design, sustainability and economics.

    What I took awayCon qué me quedo

    No manual told me who to call or which test to run next. I learned that taking initiative often means exactly that: not waiting to know perfectly what to do before you start doing it.

    The problemEl problema

    PVC is naturally rigid. To make it flexible, as in some medical waste like blood bags, plasticizers are added, among them phthalates such as DEHP. They sit between the polymer chains and change the material's properties. And they make it very hard to recycle: rigid PVC can be recycled mechanically quite easily, while flexible PVC mostly ends up incinerated or in landfill.

    El PVC es naturalmente rígido. Para hacerlo flexible, como en algunos residuos médicos (por ejemplo, bolsas de sangre), se añaden plastificantes, entre ellos ftalatos como el DEHP. Se introducen entre las cadenas del polímero y modifican sus propiedades. Y dificultan enormemente su reciclaje: el PVC rígido se recicla mecánicamente con relativa facilidad, mientras que el flexible termina en gran parte incinerado o en vertedero.

    The methodEl método

    Above a certain temperature and pressure, CO₂ behaves halfway between a gas and a liquid: it gets into a material easily and still works as a solvent. It's also non-flammable, relatively inert and reaches the supercritical state at fairly moderate conditions. I ran experiments at different combinations of temperature and pressure and analysed the samples with ¹H-NMR and FTIR.

    Por encima de cierta temperatura y presión, el CO₂ se comporta a medio camino entre un gas y un líquido: penetra con facilidad en un material y, a la vez, actúa como solvente. Además es no inflamable, relativamente inerte y alcanza el estado supercrítico en condiciones bastante moderadas. Realicé experimentos a distintas combinaciones de temperatura y presión y analicé las muestras con ¹H-NMR y FTIR.

    What I took awayCon qué me quedo

    It was probably the most scientific project I'd done. It brought together chemistry, process engineering, sustainability, experiments and data analysis, starting from a complex problem and looking at it from several disciplines.

    Fue probablemente el proyecto más científico que había hecho. Combinaba química, ingeniería de procesos, sostenibilidad, experimentación y análisis de datos, partiendo de un problema complejo y mirándolo desde varias disciplinas.

    The factoryLa fábrica

    Schur Flexibles was a flexible packaging group, later renamed adapa. The Dutch plant produced and printed packaging materials. For the first time I was really close to a factory: machines, materials, production times, planning, people, bottlenecks, inventory, quality.

    Lean starts from a simple idea: create as much value as possible with fewer resources by removing what doesn't add value, then redesign the system so it flows better and keeps improving. It fascinated me. Engineering could also mean looking at a whole system and asking: how could we do this better?

    Lean parte de una idea sencilla: crear el máximo valor con menos recursos eliminando lo que no aporta valor, y rediseñar el sistema para que fluya mejor y mejore de forma continua. Me fascinó. La ingeniería también podía consistir en mirar un sistema entero y preguntarse: ¿cómo podríamos hacer esto mejor?

    I joined an improvement project with Jorge Ruiz Santamaría of Sincronia Consulting, a firm specialised in operational transformation. I travelled with the team to another production plant in the Netherlands and took part in analysing and optimising several of its processes.

    Until then I didn't really know what consulting was. Suddenly I found a job where you walk into an organisation, understand how it works, analyse a complex problem with very different people and help design a better way of doing things. That search led me to Industrial Engineering & Management.

    I collected, classified and structured information on hydrogen projects in different countries, working with International Energy Agency data and databases. One of the project's references was the IEA's work around The Future of Hydrogen: Seizing Today's Opportunities.

    At GPTech I had seen the technology. Now I was starting to see the international system that gets built around a technology. It was a first hint of something that later became central to my studies.
